T cell response to SARS-Cov-2 infections

T cell response to SARS-Cov-2 infections

29 July 2020

After focusing on antibody responses that seem to fade in time, some studies have been looking at T cell immunity and memory. Daniel Altmann and Rosemary Boyton from the Imperial College in London just published an article summarising some key lessons from recent T cell studies. Their aim is to better understand the T cell specificity, function, durability and role in protection in asymptomatic, mild and severe COVID19 cases. It appears that a majority of patients presents correlated antibody and T cell responses and that often more severe cases show a larger response. A lot of questions remain to fully understand T cell immunology and get an accurate picture of the population level immunity.
