SARS-Cov-2 can infect cats - Article in Nature 04/01/2020

Flash News COVID19

This is what researchers from the Harbin Veterinary Research Institute in China have just concluded from a study carried out on different animals. Cats inoculated nasally with the SARS-Cov-2 virus showed a detectable viral load and were able to transmit the virus to other cats under experimental conditions. Dogs are not really susceptible to the infection, while the virus do not seem to replicate in chickens, pigs and ducks. Cat owners should not be alarmed as there is currently no evidence that the virus could be transmitted between humans and pets. There have been few studies to date on animal sensitivity to SARS-Cov-2 and this subject requires research efforts to elaborate solid animal models to test therapies.
