The virus course in the body and how it kills

Flash

SARS-Cov-2 mostly raises respiratory symptoms but not only. Researchers start to realise that the lungs may be a starting point, but that the virus can extend to many organs such as the heart, blood vessels, the liver, the brain and kidneys. This article published in Science summarises the state-of-the-art knowledge on how the virus behaves in the body and how it attacks cells. Questions are raised about its impact on blood clotting, blood pressure, the digestive tract, as well as on heart and brain functions; and the role of the immune response and the “cytokine storm” that might occur. More research and data are needed to understand the variety of symptoms observed in SARS-Cov-2 infections and how the virus is directly provoking them or if those are collateral damages sometimes leading to organ failures and death.
