Promising antibodies against flaviviruses

Promising antibodies against flaviviruses

15 January 2021

Flavivirus is a genus of positive-strand RNA viruses in the family Flaviviridae including West Nile virus, dengue virus and Zika virus. As there are no therapies available, the development of vaccines is key to controlling the associated diseases. However, vaccines efficacy could be undermined by antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE). Modhiran et al. and Biering et al. describe two different antibodies that bind to the flavivirus NS1 protein which might be a promising vaccine antigen with low ADE risk.
