Mask recycling Belgian project: receiving help from the Liège Space Center!

12 June 2020

Researchers around the world are seeking solutions to recycle face masks to address the shortage of face masks observed during the crisis. The results of the different projects are variable and research efforts have sometimes been abandoned. The Walloon project entitled ‘MASK’ is focusing on the surgical masks and FFP2 decontamination. The research team of the University of Liège found an effective method of disinfection but encountered difficulties in drying the masks, hampering their filtration efficiency. The Liege Space Center is therefore studying a drying method using vacuum tanks, allowing the extraction of residual water while preserving the integrity of the fibers.
