Predicting severity of COVID19 cases

22 July 2020

A recent study conducted by French teams (INSERM, APHP-CUP, Institut Pasteur) focused on immune responses in 50 COVID19 patients with different disease severity. They found that patients with severe forms of the disease showed low to no interferon (IFN) type I response, persistent viral load and an excessive inflammatory response. Based on these findings, type I IFN deficiency may be a hallmark of severe COVID19 and therapeutic approaches could be adapted.
